Joanna Tsakona
Joanna is responsible for product and business development for PhDportal and ShortCoursesPortal. This includes several ongoing marketing activities, in order to attract more perspective PhD candidates and students interested in a short course. It also includes developing new opportunities in the European market and helping Universities/Schools to promote their related programmes.
Joanna has joined the StudyPortals team in September 2011. She is a big fan of lifelong learning, adding herself: “with no borders”! Joanna’s passion for international mobility started in the age of fifteen, when she experienced a school exchange programme in Paris, France. Since then, she chased opportunities to meet international students from all around the globe through an active participation in international student associations. Her best international student moment was her intensive language course in Beijing University of Language and Culture during the Beijing Olympic Games 2008.
When introduced to StudyPortals, Joanna was working for JADE- the biggest European student network fostering youth entrepreneurship with which StudyPortals had a partnership! Charmed by the idea of becoming a member of a former start-up company, where entrepreneurial attitude is highly appreciated, she obtained the honorable title of “entrepreneurship trainee in StudyPortals”. Her friends find it a cool title but many still try to solve the mystery!
Joanna holds a BSc in Business Administration from Athens University of Economics and Business and has worked for one year in Brussels for JADE. During this time, she has worked with high level decision makers from the European Commission, the World Bank, the OECD, etc for issues related to the European education policies.

In her free time, she composes piano music, sings with her guitar and tries to make people around her happy. First priority the StudyPortals clients and partners of course!
Key Challenges
To prove to PhD candidates that the PhDportal is the best (and first?) “research tool” they will meet in their PhD career! Finding and comparing doctoral programmes in Europe has never become so easy. Second key challenge: To give international students a short boost up the ladder of knowledge with academic, summer or winter courses from ShortCoursesPortal! “I don’t have the time for this” is no longer an excuse!
